Feeds
- Timeline Stories grouped by the day, week, or month they reached the front page. Rank by upvotes or comments, keep the top 10 to 200, and see similar submissions grouped under one story.
- Aggregate The top stories of the past day, 3 days, week, month, or year, or any date range.
- Frontpage The current Hacker News front page, with your filters applied.
- Best of Hacker News’s best recent comments, grouped by thread.
- RSS Atom and JSON feeds that follow your story filters. Build a feed
Filters
- Quick filters Show or hide Small Web, Show HN, Ask HN, Tell HN, Vintage, and AI stories with one click. Small Web uses Kagi’s list of personal sites; Vintage finds links with a year in the title.
- Format Show only links, self posts, PDFs, or videos.

Keywords
Include or exclude words in titles.
aimatches anywhere, even inside “email”;"ai"matches only the whole word. - Sites and authors Require or block specific domains and submitters.
- Minimums Hide stories below a vote or comment count.
- Story cooldown Hold new Timeline stories for a few hours while discussion develops. Stories with 100+ points or 50+ comments appear right away.
- Unread only Hide stories you have already seen.
Comments
- Beside the feed On desktop, discussions open in a drawer next to the feed. Dock it left or right, center it, or go full screen.
- Sort and filter Sort by newest or by the commenters’ average karma. Hide low-karma or specific commenters, or show only comments posted since your last visit.
- Long threads Sticky parent comments, thread lines, a minimap, and comment text size and spacing of their own.
- Keyboard j/k moves between comments, h/l between replies at the same level, and n/p opens the next or previous story’s comments.
- Profiles Click a username to see karma, average karma, account age, and bio.
- HN links Links to other Hacker News threads open here, not on news.ycombinator.com.

- Themes Follow your system’s light or dark mode with a palette for each, or pick one: Light, Manila, Hacker News Classic, Dark, Midnight, Ayu Light, Ayu Mirage, Bloomberg, Catppuccin Latte, Catppuccin Mocha, Dracula, GitHub Dark, GitHub Light, Gruvbox Dark, Gruvbox Light, Material Dark, Monokai Pro, Night Owl, Nord, One Dark, Rosé Pine, Rosé Pine Dawn, Solarized Dark, Solarized Light, Tokyo Night

- Unread markers New stories and new comments since your last visit stand out.
